Where Does Your $$$ Go?

Show Me The Money! Where Does My $$$ Go?

Sleepy Hollow Parents' Club (SHPC) asks for two donations per year from our parent community.  SHPC is a 501-(3)(c) organization and, as a result, we budget to zero every year.  In other words, everything we collect during the year, we intend to spend during the current school year. Donations made to SHPC are used to pay current school year expenses.

The first donation that SHPC requests each year is $350 for Parents' Club Dues.  Parents' Club dues are calculated on a per child basis.  For the 2017-18 school year, we have budgeted for 370 students.

The second donation that SHPC requests each year is $1,000 per student to our Annual Fund called, “The Missing Piece.” The Annual Fund donation bridges the gap between annual state funding to the district and the actual amount of money it costs to educate each child with the current curriculum offered at Sleepy Hollow School.  Your Annual Fund donation pays for programs specific to Sleepy Hollow School.

Specifically, Annual Fund covers:

  • The cost of class size preservation of 20 students or less in grades K-3.  We are the only local school district that still has class size preservation.  Neighboring districts (Moraga, Lafayette, Alamo, etc.) now all have more than 25 students per class in grades K-3.
  • All costs associated with having a teacher aide in every classroom at Sleepy Hollow School.  Annual Fund covers all payroll AND benefit costs for these aides.
  • The PE teacher, technology upgrades, the school psychologist, reading intervention, and the librarian and library services.

Without the continued support of the Annual Fund by the Sleepy Hollow parent community, these programs and these teacher aide positions would disappear from our campus.  The district does not receive adequate funding from the state to support such programs … that is why we call your generosity “The Missing Piece."

That’s where your money goes! And, now that you know, SHPC respectfully asks that you please donate generously to SHPC to support these vital “missing pieces” for our children.  If you cannot donate the requested amount, please donate what you can because every dollar matters.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Kristan Mayer or Laura Raffetto to discuss.

We also encourage you to attend SHPC meetings to learn more about our school and our district finances.  The dates are posted on the website.
