CLASS DETAILS

 

Chess - $112

Chess is fun and can be learned quickly and easily! Studies have found that chess helps improve test results in reading, science, and math, and produces growth in critical cognitive skills. Beyond academia, chess influences social behavior including self esteem, respect for others, patience, and good sportsmanship. And did we mention: it’s FUN!

   *both classes are mixed level

Day/Time: Mondays 2:15 - 3:15 for grades 1 to 5

Cooking Around the World - $178

Join us for 6 weeks of fun preparing recipes from around the world.  Popular dishes such as Crepes, Pasta, Tacos, and  sushi  are sure to delight these budding chefs. Children are encouraged to try new foods, learn about healthy choices, engage all of their senses, and have a fun time. Cooking builds lifelong skills!

Each child will take home a personalized recipe book at the end of class.  

** This is a nut-free class. Not able to accommodate dairy-free and gluten-free

Critters ‘N Clay - $ 105

Science, sculpting and children’s literature will be integrated into one delightful hour of Critters ‘n ClayÔ.  We will learn about a new animal each week, sculpt it out of clay and wrap things up with a story about the “critter du jour.”  Students will sculpt 3 critters and glaze them all on the last day. Students will create some priceless treasures in this class.

Day/Time: Fridays 3:30 – 4:30 for grades TK to 5

Dates: 4/12, 4/19, 4/26 & 5/3 (4 classes) This class starts earlier than the others.

 

Drama & Storytelling - $ 175

The focus of the spring session will be the production of a fun and lively version of THE 3 LITTLE PIGS, to be presented to families and friends the final class session. Each class will include creative drama, theater games and storytelling. More info at www.dougsdrama.com

FUNdamental Drawing - $ 150

This spring, Young Rembrandts introduces a variety of artistic lessons that will challenge and excite your child. Our wonderful illustration of Spring flowers will surely capture the spirit of this blooming season. If your student has a curiosity for nature, he or she will love our bird bath and snail to help strengthen their art and compositional skills. Students will learn a lot about color selection and harmony in our final lesson of a peacock. With our step-by-step method every child will have a successful and confidence building experience!

Gadgets & Gizmos - $180

This unit is all about the fun of doing something with what you've built. From a spinning top to a spin art model, from a hand mixer to a conveyor belt, kids will love playing with their LEGO® creations! But don't worry, we sneak in lots of learning too! Like understanding probability in the "3-in-a-row" game model and learning about friction and symmetry with the spinning top. Each lesson reinforces the S.T.E.M. curriculum and encourages students to think of what they could invent or improvements they could make to an existing object to solve a problem. Introduce your student to the world of ideas, creativity, inventions, gadgets and gizmos all while learning with LEGO®

Having Fun With Chinese - $ 220

This class will provide an introduction to Mandarin and China’s culture and traditions. In the spring session, we will continue learning Pin Yin, the four tones, new characters and words. Chinese stories about the Dragon Boat Day and related food will be introduced too.

Intro to Coding
- $ 220

The Bay Area is home to the finest video game creators, web developers and animators in the U.S.—why not try your hand at becoming the next top coder? This programming course is designed to introduce the basics of programming such as loops, functions, conditionals, and boolean logic through both Scratch or JavaScript. The course is taught by a team of experienced coders from a variety of backgrounds, and designed for beginners with little to no previous coding experience. Lessons available for returning students. Secure your slot and learn the tools of the trade today!

 (Requires Chromebooks, laptops, or desktops with Chrome which will be provided in computer lab)

Introduction to Minecraft Plugins -$ 262

Learn to customize minecraft servers by creating and adding your own minecraft plugins. Plugins will be coded using JavaScript. Students will use JavaScript to create a complex minecraft minigame plugin and install it on their server. Students will receive their own minecraft servers for the class, so they can play with their plugins and show them to their friends.

** Returning students are welcome to continue their learning***

Kickboxing - $ 150

KickSmart is a non-competitive, school-friendly and non-violent youth-kickboxing program that is designed to combine mindfulness and fitness. Each KickSmart session consists of tough yet exhilarating kickboxing-based workouts followed by a guided meditation, which creates a uniquely enriching experience for each student.

KickSmart uses the ancient martial art of Muay Thai to emphasize the importance of physical exercise, and combines it with modern day mindfulness practices. KickSmart builds confidence and is extremely fun for any student regardless of gender or age, but make no mistake, WE WORK HARD! Lamorinda Mileage Club - $ 135

Lamorinda Mileage Club offers over a period of 7 weeks for boys and girls in the 1st through 5th grade to participate in an after-school program which helps build their confidence and celebrate all that makes them unique through running and strength building. Our program is meant to inspire an appreciation of fitness and to build healthy habits that lead to a lifetime of healthy choices.  Join us for an hour once a week and start setting a framework for healthy life goals.

Soccer- $ 200

After another successful soccer clinics held at Sleepy Hollow Elementary last Spring 2018, Cal men's assistant soccer coach Stefan Clemens welcomes all Sleepy Hollow students to join the Fall Soccer clinics 2018. This after school soccer class is provided for girls and boys TK - 3rd grade (ages 3-9) to learn the game of soccer, compete in a healthy and fun environment, and get solid exercise to strengthen their bodies and minds. Each player will work on their footwork, balance, coordination, ball mastery (touches on the soccer ball), dribbling moves, passing technique, and shooting technique and power. Along with learning the technical aspect of soccer, all players will compete in competitive situations like 1v1 games, 2v2 games, and 3v3 games. At the end of each session, the players will play freely (from 4v4 up to 8v8) to work together as a team, and utilize the moves and techniques they learned earlier in the session. Other areas covered include public speaking, how to interact with one another in a friendly way, and how deal with emotions after winning and losing. The most important aspect of this soccer class is to learn the game of soccer, be respectful of others and show good sportsmanship, and have fun! :)

Toyology - $185

In these exciting hands-on science classes we will build a variety of toys and use them to demonstrate major scientific concepts such as energy, electricity, light, gravity, motion, friction, magnetism and simple machines. Each student will construct and take home a science toy in every class. The classes will be taught by our award-winning staff. Each student will make and take home:

Who Done IT? - $163  ($20 includes materials)

Turn your student into a real CSI: Crime Scene Investigator!! In this STEAM based class, your young CSI will work on new clues every week to help solve the case!!! From using microscopes to study DNA to lifting fingerprints and identifying different substances, students will use various science techniques to analyze clues and ultimately solve the crime!!

Day/Time: Wednesdays 3:30-4:40 (70 minutes) for grades 2 to 5
